New York City
This pending project was interesting in that it was an attempt to convert a standard 1970’s New York studio apartment into a loft-like space defined by the volumes of the custom millwork & by varying the plane of the floor. In place of a bedroom, the floor plane is to be lifted to accommodate a concealed bed. The bed will lift by means of hydraulic jacks when needed, or left open as a freestanding bedroom, surrounded by a flowing curtain. When the bed is down the open space beyond the monolithic kitchen island will act as a large, uninterrupted living & dining area.
